Again think I solved it myself.....

I set #footerContainer to height: 50px; (bumps the footer container up 50px;)

Then I adjusted the padding for #footer #copyright (controls the height of the copyright text to center within the #footerContainer

padding: 13px 30px;

Trying to change the height of the footer... for some reason I haven't figure it out yet. When I add height:150px; to #footerContainer it only vertically shifts the #footerContainer up 150 pixels. The same goes for #footer div.
