I use Rackspace and have a dedicated server (not virtual).

;-)

I should call them to ask them what if anything I can do to make my server "Wordpress friendly" but I doubt I can with my configuration. We'll see.

Thanks for everything!

Usually the default setup for permissions is determined by your hosting provider. I use Blue Host and never have to adjust permissions because they are a "WordPress friendly" hosting provider.

If you deal a lot with setting up new WordPress installations, it may be worth the time and effort to setup a new hosting account with a provider that doesn't make you jump through so many hoops.

I will say, however, that there certainly is no such thing as a perfect hosting company. ALL of them have their own unique "issues" ;-)

Best

Hello,

You were right, it was a permissions issue. In the past, when I install Wordpress, I have to go in and set permissions to upload content. I did not do that with this installation.

What is the normal protocol you use when setting up a Wordpress blog to get the permissions right?

This was my solution:

Wordpress uses permalinks and was not able to write the rewrite rules to /var/www/vhosts/stonylane.org/httpdocs/.htaccess as this file did not exist. I created a .htaccess file and made the permissions domain:psacln and made it group writable (as apache is part of the psacln group). I then went to Settings --> Permalinks and clicked "Save Changes" (I did not make any changes, I just wanted it to write to the .htaccess file). Once this completed, I confirmed that the rewrite rules were added:

[root@146357 httpdocs]# cat .htaccess

# BEGIN WordPress
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
</IfModule>

# END WordPress

I then verified that the links on the front page work and removed group writability from the .htaccess file for security.

Is there an easier way to do this?

Thanks for the help!

Scott

Hmm, that's odd.

I can confirm it's not a theme issue. This sounds more like an issue with hosting/privledges/redirection (I'm not exactly sure).

I honestly wish I could be more help, but I know very little about hosting related issues like this (I just make my hosting company fix everything). I'm sure your hosting provider should be able to troubleshoot the issue with you.

If you're able to address the source of the issue, please post it here so others can learn from your experience!

Thanks for posting!

Hello,

First, I would like to commend you on your great templates, music and Photoshop Phun. I've enjoyed getting to know you through your work.

I purchased the Church theme for a client and when I setup the posts for the featured area, the text appears in the featured area but when I click on Continue...it says:

Not Found

The requested document was not found on this server.

The address bar shows the correct post (/2010/04/sunday-message/) but the page doesn't show. I need the Continue... button to link to that week's sermon (and information about the sermon).

It's the same as the other side of the featured area for the Pastor's Blog. Page doesn't show but the address bar shows the correct post (/2010/04/pastors-blog/) but that page doesn't load either.

I have edited my host file to develop this site but that shouldn't have any affect on this, right?

Lastly, none of the links on the site work. They all load "Not Found - The requested document was not found on this server" even though the address bar shows the correct page/post and the pages/posts are published in the admin area.

Thanks for your help!

Scott
