Yes, that is the proper functionality. Try visiting your permalinks settings page (under "settings") and make sure you're using an option like "month and name" so the URLs look nice.

Hello,

When the feature slider is on the first post and someone presses the left arrow, it goes to a blank post...is it possible for it to link to the last post so it's a continuous cycle?
