Hi Christopher,

Great job with this template!
I'm posting a request here to add the header slideshow available while having also the background video running for desktops.
Most of traffic nowadays comes from mobile users, and while they cannot see moving pictures, if we can provide them with a fast slideshow, we can communicate a bit more effectively (at least in my case...)

I've run through the forum in hope this was something with a workaround already solved but I saw that you just recommended a user to post here. I dont see that request but I upvote it!

Thank you for all your dedication to this masterpiece of a template! :)

Best regards,
Eduardo

Hey there. Christ. I know you put big effort to build this template. I really appreciate it. Kindly write now.
Please I've been trying to contact you via email but no luck. So this is my request to have an useful and effective navigation (in the real world feature movie sites).
As a true Filmmaker It is crucial for me as many are requesting that you can assign which videos you want in any particular category but without the redundancy that Vysual has now in all videos/home pages.

Look it at this way. Is about order and categories for my audience. As filmmaker is a most to be able to create a page for Home with the main video trailer, one for behind the scenes videos, one for video interviews, VFX, VR, etc. . And is a real mess to have them all in the videos page (videos 1 and Videos 2) all together in a carousel. It is not in any way a rude critic. Is real, real necessary to make the template work more convenient.
As other person posted: The sticky video feature only works for the home page. If we could use this feature to decide to assign it to a particular page will be great. But there is still the problem that I want to assign more videos to a particular page of the category, not just one main video.

This request, I think follows the main purpose of Vysual. Is not in any way a different approach. It just that how it is now, is limiting the real needs of any feature movie. Every movie has those categories separated (including Imdb) as a regular design: trailer, video interviews, behind the scenes, news, cast & crew, and they don't mix in the same video page.

Please help us to have the perfect site.
Best regards and thanks again.

For reference sake, RIVYT is $20/year. We're trying to attract users like yourself through design/features/etc, but I get that if you are all setup and comfortable with your current process, it doesn't make much sense to add or change that.

Thanks for looking into it Christopher, could result in something (both in your WordPress themes and via RIVYT) valuable for the wider world of interactive video. I strongly believe that the capability is under-implemented and still protected inside the bubble of high-priced design boutiques -- who have a vested interest in making interactive video designs proprietary.

As for RIVYT, all available information on that venture is very streamlined, therefore not too transparent (e.g., pricing, and whether there is the timecode range playback feature I mentioned), but if I understand the venture correctly, I'm in the segment of users who already have web hosting combined with "advanced-ish" design skills, making a monthly fee redundant -- preferring one sunk investment.

But I can see how RIVYT could appeal to lots of organizations wanting a great-looking, easy solution to creating a video gallery.

Here's something, that I think could expand the customer base of this theme: Lately I'm exploring the potential for interactive video at the basic (yet still rather impressive) level of letting the visitor click on a link -- and/or a shortcode or even simple hyperlink -- to watch a segment of a long-form video in a pop-up lightbox that starts and ends at specific timecodes.

I have ascertained that this is an easy implementation from Vimeo's API, which includes the ability. So far the best solution I've found for this is a rather cumbersome, overdone and not aesthetically superior plug-in called FVPlayer. It goes beyond the publicly available hyperlink method (e.g., vimeo.com/73214621#t=3m13s) as it plays a specified range, and then quits playback in the lightbox, as opposed to merely specifying a start time.

By adding this as a feature, my opinion is that you would appreciably expand your profitable customer base by "hanging the carrot" of your theme(s) rather suddenly (and easily!) becoming also a tool for building interactive websites with rich media.

If you think there's a time frame on execution of this idea, presuming you will attack it as a coder, please let me know as I'm developing sites myself and would much prefer to stay in your ecosystem.

Thanks for considering -- and while I can only allocate a $100 budget for this on my non-profit projects, if that's sufficient for adding the feature as a "custom" request, please let me know too.

I quite agree with the suggestion above to facilitate the ability to disable the background audio upon arriving at a given page/etc. It should be quite easy (and much appreciated) to implement, perhaps as a check box at any given page/post, or as a Theme Customize setting toggling whether the audio is a "sticky" to the home page only, or should play everywhere. (I imagine that the latter would be easiest to implement; again, that's just to make the music stop upon leaving the home page, as a boolean option.)

Apart from a feature request, is there a CSS/code hack to effectuate this?

Hey, Chris. You asked me to post my request here, so, here it goes:

If I embed a YouTube video into one of my pages ( just a regular page, like, "Center all Text"), is there any special code that I can add that will shut off the site music that's playing when someone clicks play on the YouTube video? Or - even if the music would shut off if a visitor navigates to that particular page? And when they navigate back to any of the other pages, the music turns back on again? That would be really helpful!

Unless there's a better way to do this that already exists within the template that I just need to be educated on; then I'll do that! :)

Thanks for the awesome theme and support!

As mentioned repeatedly in this forum and most recently at:

http://www.themolitor.com/forums/topic/video-pageposts-confusion-how-do-they-work-in-vysual?replies=13#post-40828

The "Videos Page" template under "Page Attributes" is totally incapable of limiting to a category. It's an odd insistence where you do offer a sticky for a video at the landing page, but proceed to require that the same video redundantly appear in the only way to begin videos full-screen. The alternative approach suggested, of creating a category with a gallery of MULTIPLE video clips, is really not any solution for practical purposes. The ability to have a menu item that links to a full-screen "Videos Page" template (like the homepage with a sticky-ed video) presenting a category of videos -- that could most importantly include just one video -- is a dealbreaker for this template.

It oversimplifies to say, as you wrote in the above linked thread, "As far as the 'videos' page template goes, it has always been intended to link to ALL video posts following the same 'official movie site' features you see for major motion films." The reality is exactly the opposite. You are denying the capability for designers to hone in on specific videos, and simply mandating a carousel of every single posted video, which of course creates redundancies with, for example, the sticky-ed video.

This is fundamentally in the nature of a bug report, awaiting a fix, rather than a feature request, but you required this issue to be posted here.

Hey there,
Just bought VYSUAL a few hours ago and have been enjoying working with it so far.

Here are a few things that I would most like to see in a future update or patch.

1. Standard Posts ought to not be limited to only including the entire post in a scrolling style when on a Category page, and should instead allow for the option of using excerpts, with a clearly visible "Read More" or "Continue" button. I say this because many of my posts can go on for pages and pages with a lot of pictures and documentation; so being able to go from a small description to a full dedicated page would be ideal.

I also don't think everyone will understand the tiny chain-link symbol and know it will take them to a single dedicated page for a particular post, which is why I suggest the clearer worded button.

2. The 3-bar Menu icon that has grown in popularity over the past few years used to confuse me. It's only recently that I know it's suppose to refer to a menu or a list in a symbolic fashion. But for those people who still don't get what it is, is there any way that an option could be added in the Customize tabs to include the word "MENU" to the left side of that icon?

3. A big thing that I think is missing from this theme is a grid-based gallery page option.
I understand the biggest stylistic element of this theme are the large full-screen galleries, and then the single horizontal post feeds. But adding a multi-paged 3 or 4 column gallery option to display artwork, photos, and images inside would be great and somewhat more ideal for either a Concept Art or an On-set Photo section for the movies this theme may be used for; including my own.

Thanks for the consideration. Hope to hear your thoughts.

Currently the order is based on the order the images were uploaded. The most recently uploaded image is the first image that appears and works backwards to the first image uploaded as the last image in the slideshow.

To my knowledge there is no other means of controlling the order. This is because I'm using the built in header images feature, which doesn't natively have a slideshow option/feature (hence why options like image order is not available).

I guess what I'm really hoping for is an auto advance for the Videos 1 page.

Any chance there's some easy code that can make that happen?

Thanks so much for your time, Chris.

Hey Chris,

I love the look of VYSUAL. But I dream to use it as a video portfolio site.

Which can almost work if I use the Videos 1 page as the starter page, instead of the default home.

But what I've found is that people don't notice the left and right arrows. So they stare at one video's thumbnail and don't know what to do.

I love how the default home page "slide shows" thru the thumbnails I upload, but the play button on that page only leads to one video.

My feature request is that Video 1 have the option to become a slide show, so that the thumbnails and play button cycle thru all my video posts.

That would make my dream of using Vysual as a video portfolio site into reality!

It would be so awesome! And I'm sure other people would find that feature fantastic too!

Please consider this feature request.

Thanks!

David

You bet! :-)

If you're enjoying the theme, PLEASE don't forget to rate it on your downloads page on ThemeForest. Positive ratings REALLY help me out and encourage further development and updates.

Thanks!

Hi there,

Good point!

I'll definitely address this in the next update, but for now, here's the fix...

Open functions.php and locate the following on lines 129-139...

/////////////////////
//CUSTOM HEADER IMAGE
/////////////////////
$headerArgs = array(
	'default-image' => get_template_directory_uri() . '/images/bridge.jpg',
	'header-text'   => false,
	'height'        => 800,
	'width'         => 1200,
	'uploads'       => true
);
add_theme_support( 'custom-header', $headerArgs );

There you can see the "height" and "width" settings. Thinking maybe try 2400x1600?

Let me know if that helps.

Best,

Chris

Hey there,

the standard size for header pictures is 1200x800. Which looks ok on small screens, but if you have larger screens with higher resolutions it looks pretty shitty.

Is there a possibility to upload higher resolution versions of the header for bigger screens?

Would really appreciate it.

Kind regards,

Phil
