Hi there,

I visited your site and definitely see an issue with loading times. It's especially noticeable when I'm navigating different pages. One thing I noticed is that you updated the background pictures for the gallery, but you didn't update the img src inside those elements. Example from your gallery.html page...

<li class="gallery-image" style="background-image:url(images/window.jpg);" data-imgtitle="Bridge" data-caption="<p>Melé gazes at the Great Wall</p>">
	<img src="images/bridge.jpg" alt="" />
</li>

Notice that background image for the li element is different than the img src inside.

The loading times are likely based on all the images your loading. Additionally, when I try to load your audio and images directly, I get a 404 error page. It appears to be a correlation, but I can't say for sure. You're also not using the AJAX feature, so all your content (images, audio, etc) is having to load each time you change the page.

The theme itself is actually loading pretty quickly. The second you see the loading animation, that means the theme content is finished loading and waiting for your site content to load. The site content is coming from servers via your hosting provider. If you're see white before the page loads, that means your hosting provider is taking long to grab the content.

I appreciate that other sites you're running may not be experiencing the same loading issue, but when I navigate my demo site, everything is loading almost instantly on my end. The theme is only comprised of a handful of html and javaScript files (no Java). All of which are very light and pretty optimized in terms of what's being loaded.

Have you tried any kind of caching? That would definitely help. If you're not sure about how to implement a caching feature, I would definitely reach out to your hosting provider for recommended approaches (each hosting provider may have a preferred method for caching).

Please let me know if that helps at all.

Best,

After purchasing this theme and adding content I'm very disappointed that it seems very slow on mobile and desktop with video and audio disabled. I optimized the photos but the index.html page is still super slow on mobile devices and desktop. I'm not using the WP version I'm using the HTML version. My hosting is pretty fast with the other 20 websites hosted on them with much larger images and even video. The link to my site where I'm using VYSUAL: Responsive Film Campaign HTML Template is here:

nation19.com/asiatic

While waiting for your reply I went back to the theme demo and it loads pretty slow also. It seems like you have some type of code/java something making the site overwork devices and desktops...even on refresh it should load immediately and it doesn't. I need to get this site finished ASAP for my client.

Hi there,

It looks like you're not using any kind of caching feature, which is my first suggestion above to reduce loading times. That should have a large impact on your loading times as you have a lot of items on the home page.

Regarding the javascript files, those are properly placed as they have to precede the HTML DIV where the map is loaded.

Let me know if caching has any impact.

Best,

I have serious load problems for some users too, in the neighbourhood of 30 seconds - and I have no images (except a logo, some markers), just 70 pins and some text.

All the users I've heard from are on IE (11 and 9), and none seem to have problems with Google Maps outside of The Navigator. So it does indeed seem like The Navigator might be the problem.

Did you ever find a solution, Huihan? Or you, Chris?

Best,

Hi there,

I can't think of anything code-based in the theme that would cause loading issues like that (no plugins used or anything). It's usually always either the weight of the content you're loading or your particular hosting setup.

There are lots of caching options to explore. Gzip is another one to try. I recommend contacting your hosting provider about caching options available.

Hope that helps.

Thanks!

Hi chris,

I'm having a big problem with the loading times of my site (www.mychinaroots.com). it's a company site and my target audience is spread throughout north america, europe, east and southeast asia (i'm based in China myself).

i've already tried using plugins such as WP super cache, (advanced) lazy load, improve my load times, and W3 total cache. the plugins certainly help, but it still often takes more than 20-25 seconds to load a page. the slow load times are especially the case with the "non-home page-pages" and when you click on a city on the world map of the homepage.

i have also now tried two different servers (the server for http://www.mychinaroots.com is a virtual shared cloud in the US, the other cloud server is based in Hong Kong: http://www.beaujolais-china.com/mcr/). the load times in both cases are slow and don't differ much, so it doesnt seem to je bandwidth issue. Overall, people in the US say the load times of the site are okay, but numerous people in western europe and some in southeast asia say it takes too long or they stopped trying after waiting in vain for a page to load. here in China it's erratic, one day it's fine, the next day it takes way too long.

there also doesn't seem to be a clear connection with the browser type. for instance today, google chrome goes fast and shows no problems, while IE and firefox take much longer. tomorrow, it may be the other way around...

I do have some background pics on the other pages, but I've already reduced their resolutions so it shouldn't that either.

could this problem have something to do with how the template is designed? two specific questions:
- what is the sequence for loading the different pages, is it perhaps the case that every time you open one page, it first has to load the homepage from scratch...?
- were there specific plugins that were used for the design of the non-home page-pages that perhaps contribute to the long loading times?

thanks, Chris, very eager to resolve this, so i look forward to hearing from you.

Huihan

Hi there,

Loading times really depend on the number/file size of elements on the page, your hosting bandwidth speed and your computers connection speed to the internet.

I've taken all the steps I know to make sure my themes load as quickly as I can, but in most cases the theme doesn't really have any control over loading times. My best recommendations are...

1. Use a caching plugin like WP Super Cache

2. Optimize images using various online tools:

8 excellent tools for optimizing your images

WP image performance plugins

Tools and tips on how to optimize images for the web

3. Try breaking content/images up into separate pages/categories (if possible).

4. Upgrade your hosting account to handle more bandwidth.

5. Utilize a Content Delivery Network (CDN). MaxCDN is really popular.

Hope that helps!
