Thanks everyone. I found the answer. For the pictures to show, you have to set them as featured image. for the excerpt, in my case it was a problem of formatting, I was already using a different theme with the same articles I had to make some slight changes and everything worked fine.
Just wanted to share in case someone run into the same problems.

Hello there,
I am having trouble showing excerpts of my articles show in the frontpage like in the demo. Even if I add pictures it the articles, they would not show. Only titles and 4 words show in the carousel and just titles in the category list.
Any help would be much appreciated!
