http://fbcelgin.com/2010/02/diving-in-week-2/, when the tinyurl is down, it simply showed the Twitter button and then in the status bar, it would show ERROR. I talked to David, who setup the site, and he said he didn't not set any error checking for the getTinyURL function. His site was doing it by default. The question is, why is my site not doing it and only spitting out the error from the beginning of the post? How do I correct it, in case the tiny URL API goes down again? Thank you.

I have removed the button, but it is removing twitter support from the built in theme. It is only erring out on the Posts section when I enable the Twitter button. My question is, why is it giving the code that is posted at the beginning of the post, rather then erring gracefully like the other sites with the same theme? I don't mind that it is erring out, I just need it to do it cleanly as the other sites. Thank you very much!

I'm not sure. I don't see you're entire site erroring out. I only saw the error in the "share this" section.

Since this isn't a theme issue (it's either a server or API issue), I can't offer much more support other than advising to remove that button if it causes issues for your server.

Is the API dead, permanently? And why is my site erring out, unlike the other sites simply show an error in the status bar? How do I fix or troubleshoot this? Can I point to another url shortener, such as bit.ly? I need to correct this issues please. Thank you for the help!! You are awesome!

If it is indeed an API related issue, there isn't much we can do to take control of that other than removing the Twitter button.

Thank for the response, but this does not seem to be the problem, as it was working correctly yesterday. I checked other wpchurch based sites and their Twitter button simply gives and error message in the status bar when you hover over it. My site doesn't, it simply spits that error out since the TinyURL api went down today. Plus I can browse to files on the server with a direct link adn get to them just fine. Thank you.

update: seems the problem is that the tinyurl api is currently down. How do I implement error checking for the getTinyURL function called in the share.php? Thank you!

I am not sure what this means, I did a little research and this usually means that there is a temporary server outage or something is down, but I wanted to see what you had to say about the error. It does it on every page where a post in a category is. I have also cleared the cache for the theme and that did not help either. Thank you for your help!
