Hi there,

Thanks for posting your findings!

Please keep in mind that the "compatibility view" button switches between the IE9 engine and the IE7 engine. IE7 is not a supported browser for this theme, so that is why clicking the "compatibility view" button causes it to work.

Of all the problems with IE, this is probably the most annoying "feature" as most users have no idea what it does or if it's even on or off, etc.

Hope that makes sense!

Hey There,

It seems I have fixed the problem. And im sure this was a legit problem,
'coz I've tested it on many different IE9 workstations (the upside of working
at an IT co.), and they all crashed (Win 7 + IE9).

Once again, problem was: IE9 Loads the Page, and then just before everything
starts, boom, "...Searching for a solution to the problem", and tab closes (
or recovers, depending on browser settings). Compatibility View fixes this,
but its a schlep. Anyway:

../wpzoom/scripts/script.js:204

     $("#loadingText").fadeOut(300);

change to:

     $("#loadingText").hide();

Seems that the fadeOut() call was causing IE9 to crash.

Hope this helps some people ;)

Regards,

Fritz.

Hello,

I have the same problem, however, it seems that WP-Zoom doesnt work at all in
IE9. The page opens, and then when the photos are finished downloading and
the display starts, wham, after 2 secs, IE9 outright crashes in my face.

Setup: Win 7 Pro + IE9 (Fully Updated). This is not a Computer-Specific
problem 'cause my Workstation at work (also Windows 7, also IE9) does the same,
including a horde of visitors that mailed my client.

http://www.loveoflight.co.za.

Looking for answers. Have tried replacing the jquery with updated version,
no difference. What's to do?

Please, Help,

Regards,

Hello:
Works, thank you. Same for the background, no problem.

As to the WordPress gallery, I attach some annotated screenshots of what it is, what I am seeking and what it is now. I kind of like the lightbox with slideshow, that's why I would like to change.

Now there is still another thing, I want to get rid of the "read more -->" as the slidewshow on the homepage is kind of static (I know that this sounds contradictory) With that I mean that the pictures will not be changed often and that they are blank pages/blogs, so there is nothing more to read.

Thank you for the good - and fast - service.

Andre

err. - I sent the post and forgot to look to attach the screenshots, now I do not find any way to do it . . .

cannot paste them neither

Hello:
I do understand that finding a solution can be tricky and time consuming. On the other hand you have to appreciate and understand my side too. I will not, nor am I "throwing stones" and do not want to be unreasonable too. Therefore it would be acceptable FOR THE MOMENT BEING, to disable the slideshow under IE8. Well with the understanding that this is TEMPORARY until a solution is being found.
With "disabling" I understand that the thumbnails will still be visible on the bottom and clickable to show the picture as full size background (sans the zoom understood). Yes, I could live with that for the moment being.
There are a few other things, mind you, not defects, more questions. I do have my "own" background color (#330000) and would like to change to this.
Also, when using the WordPress gallery feature: it shows the thumbnails fine, but, when i go over four columns they get squished together. Any way to make the preview, thumbnail page wider. I do have sections with roughly 300 pictures (yes, three HUNDRED).
Normally I would not really have bothered with this, I would have tried to figure it out myself, but in view of the circumstances, i think you owe this much. OK, it is not your coding, but you used it and apparently did not test it (one cannot test everything I know) but you sold it, you carry the responsibility.
Regarding those questions, if you prefer that I post them separately, I will do it, no problem.

Hello
I thought as much and hope a solution will be found soon.

As being compatible with IE8, i do not agree. Yes the content is accessible, the view is not. Without zooming, as stated, I can live with that. But with a slideshow which hangs up, I cannot. I also give a very bad impression to the user. it does not downgrade s you say, it breaks and that's a different kettle of fish. That is also why I request, should I say demand, a prompt fix or a refund so that I can use another theme.

So please keep me informed and pressure either the jQuery team and find a way circumventing the issue.

Thank you for the prompt answer and hoping, expecting, a prompt solution

Thanks for bringing this to my attention! I totally overlooked the slideshow issue you pointed out and focused on the zooming effect.

It appears IE8 has a problem with the actual jQuery library. As you see in the error message:

Invalid argument... line 16... jquery.min.js?ver=3.1.2

This isn't my code, but the actual jQuery script developed by the jQuery team. I wasn't aware of this error (obviously I assumed they checked for IE errors).

I'll need some time to look into this and see what the cause could be. I know they're working on an update to jQuery, so maybe that will solve the issue. I'm not sure. I will see what I can find out though.

The important thing to remember is that the content is still accessible for older browsers (i.e. it "downgrades"), so even though certain effects and technology aren't utilized, the theme is still compatible with IE8.

Thanks again!

Hello:

That the zoom effect does not work under IE8, I can live with. But what upsets me greatly is that the slideshow does not work neither. This plus the zoom is everything about this theme. Without the zoom, OK, but without the slideshow, I can as well use a standard page with a static background (and save $$$).
The slideshow starts but after the second slide stops infinitely. If one clicks the pause button and then the start button is goes for another two slides and stops again, this is impossible.
Do you have a fix for this or do I have to get a refund?

I know that the conversion to IE9 is growing but many stay with IE8, even older, so . . .

In the specs it states that it is IE8 compatible, the one I got is NOT. (I checked and did a clean install on another machine, it did not even work with a local testing server!)

A prompt answer/fix is expected as we have to hold back on the development of our site.

Andre

The link is not longer valid as the problem is not install nor hosting related but lies on the coding level of the theme.

The zoom effect is achieved via CSS3, which IE8 doesn't support. In those cases, the technology "downgrades" for older versions.

This is common for themes that use the latest technology to "downgrade" for browsers that don't support it.

For example, when rounded corners via CSS came out, browsers that didn't support that technology would "downgrade" and display non-rounded corners.

In our case, browsers that support zooming will see a zoomed image, browsers that don't will still see the image, but not zoomed. The term "downgrading" implies that the technology isn't being used, but the content is still viewable to users.

Keep in mind, however, the conversion rate of IE8 to IE9 is increasing steadily.
