Susan,

Go to Settings > General > Membership > Checkoff "Anyone Can Register" > Don't change your other settings...

That should do it :)

Hi, again,

I have now read through several pages of posts and believe that my post on this subject isn't in the list any longer. I've been wrong many times, so I admit I could be wrong again!

First, I'm using WP 3.3.1, and my web-site is http://www.alec-destroys-democracy.org

Since the Internet bots of the world are getting by captchas, I'm moving on to a different kind of "find out if this is a human" for contact and comment forms. It requires people to register on the web-site before commenting or filling out any forms.

On the page where I allow comments, MAKE CONTACT, a sub-page under HOME, I have changed the settings to allow comments and changed the discussion Settings to "must register and login."

The trouble is, my Politico web-site goes directly to the LOGIN screen, entirely skipping the registration process. This means any new person will not have a way to register and, therefore, a way to log in.

I am still only semi-literate in WP, so I can find in Comments.php

 <!--IF USER MUST BE LOGGED IN-->
<?php if ( get_option('comment_registration') && !$user_ID ) : ?>

but that doesn't mean I can figure out exactly what happens after that, ya know?

Can you explain why Politico isn't allowing people to register--or WHETHER it even intends to let people register??

Thanks so much,
Susan
