Can you provide a link to your site? I'll check it out.

Just to clarify for you...

All pages have a top panel (title, video, welcome message), middle panel (post/page content) and bottom panel (widgets).

Home page: top panel contains the welcome message/video) and the middle panel contains the post slider.

Category page: top panel contains the category title and the middle panel contains the post listing.

Post page: top panel contains either the post title or the video as specified in the custom post options. The middle panel contains the post content. If there is a video assigned, then tabbed content will appear.

Standard page: top panel contains the page title and the middle panel contains the page content.

I set up my site using pages for the main navigation. Though I don't see where I can change the background image. The home page image is the same for all the different pages. Am I going about this wrong? Also, is there a specific tutorial that shows what to do step by step. Maybe I missed that.
