Hi there,

That WP Beginner article would be my best recommendation. They have a great track record and have been pretty active in the WordPress community. Also, I recommend checking your hosting provider resources on implementing SSL/HTTPS on your site. They *should* be helpful about this as it benefits them to have secure sites on their network.

Best,

Christopher

Hi Christopher,

thank you for your quick and clear answers. You literally saved my day, in particular with the solution about the comments. Now everything seems to be working pretty smoothly now.
But, alas, I am afraid I have one last question for you. I am really sorry to exploit your courtesy once again in so little time, but it seems that you're my only hope of getting this thing done once and for all.

Here's what I hope will be the last problem: before "going public" with the website, I think it would be wise to switch it from http to https. I already bought the option when I bought the webspace, so my brain is not totally fried up. But I made a mistake in the first steps of the making of the website and made all in http. I made some researches online on this matter in the hope to figure out what to do, but the more I try to understand, the more I get confused. And afraid of making another big mistake and wreak havoc on everything. As you have probably understood, it's the first time in my life that I try to build a website ex novo. Tough stuff if you've never done it before.
I have found this tutorial (http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-add-ssl-and-https-in-wordpress/#), and it seems pretty trustable, but there are a lot of things I think I'll never be able to understand even with a brain transplant. So, - if not for me, for the sake of the poor brain surgeon who could have an unpleasant face-to-face with the scarce contents of my melon - could you please suggest a simple way (the dumbest the better) for me to do such a thing without doing any harm and unleash the fury of my bold incompetence on this still unborn website? Even pointing me toward a tutorial you deem trustable and understandable would be of great help.
Thank you in advance, and again, for your patience and competence.
Best,

andrea

Hi there,

I really appreciate your nice remarks! :-)

Regarding the home page, currently the theme is setup to have a tabbed layout as you see now. You certainly can create a single category to display items all together and just have a single category assigned on the Customize page.

Regarding comments on pages, that is controlled from single.php in the theme folder on line 14...

comments_popup_link(__('No Comments','themolitor'), __('1 Comment','themolitor'), __('% Comments','themolitor'), 'commentsLink');

Just remove that and the comments text will be removed.

Best,

Christopher

Hi Chris,
first, let me say I really like your University theme: it's clean and very estethically pleasing as a website must be. Keep up the good work!
I must also say that I am far from being an expert in building websites: I don't actually have any education on the matter, but I do love to learn and I like the challenge. And this challenge I have accepted!
So, with the help of some useful plugins, some logic, a great deal of stubbornness and a lot of trial and errors, I've managed to overcome some of the difficulties of building a website without being a professional (it is already online, "under construction"), but I still have trouble in addressing some crucial technical issues that I hope you will be able to clear.

Homepage/categories
For now, the site contains only 9 posts: I have been asked to put all of them in the homepage in a chronological order and, if possible, without using the categories at all (could tags be enough as reference for the posts?).
If, as I suspect, it's not possible to completely ignore the categories, is there a way to create just one category, the same for all the posts, and have all the articles chronologically displayed in the homepage? Could you please point me in the right direction?

Comments
There is also another issue I’d like to ask you about. I have disabled the comments for the website through a plugin, but I can't get rid the of all the “Comments off on + title of the post” under the title in the pages you open by clicking on a tab. Actually, I have managed to do it for the homepage by deleting the related instruction after trying for hours but I can’t figure out how to complete this task for every page.

Thank you in advance
