Hi, has this problem been solved? I would like to know how to add an image to post but not have it appear in the background gallery as well.

I'm thinking when you click "insert into post" it might attach the image to the post. Copy and pasting the URL of the image into the anchor tag might prevent that from happening.

thanks for responding on a saturday. I think the hey is to remove the "<a href=" part of the attachment. So it just links to the source file without being a link.

I truly appreciate you spending the time to answer my questions here in the forum.

However, I did upload it as you suggested. When it is uploaded it is not attached to a post That is all fine. The problem is when I wish to insert it in among the post text.

Once it's uploaded, I go to the post, click on the little "add media" icon which brings up the dialog box. From there I select the media tag and choose the image, then click insert into post.

It's at this point that WP automatically attaches it to the post. Have you experienced something different?

If you have an image attached to a post, that is because that image was uploaded from the post edit screen for that post. You'll need to delete that image to remove it.

Uploading images from the add new media section (again, NOT from the post edit screen) will allow you to upload images without attaching them to posts.

Thanks Chris, but so far no luck. WP automatically attaches the image to the post. I tried removing the link url, but that also does not prevent it from showing up in the thumbnails and gallery.

Any other ideas?

Hi there,

To do that, upload the image from the "add new media" page (under the main "media" section). Then you can insert the image into the post using the "media gallery" tab in the pop-up window.

What this does is it allows you to upload images without attaching that image to a specific post, but you can still display the image in the post content by accessing it form the media section.
