I want to be able to use the whole window for some content - preferably keeping the Navigator header and footer.

In my example, i've uploaded GPX files from my GPS and used the Google Maps GPX Viewer widget

I'm not sure I totally understand your question. Are you wanting to setup a page like this? http://themes.themolitor.com/wpnavigator/category/blog/

If so, that is achieved by creating a category (i.e. "Blog", "News", etc.) and assigning it as the blog category on the "customize" page.
