Thanks Chris! I found it minutes after you pointed me again to single.php.
For anyone who wants to disable PrettyPhotos and Link to the singleimagepage of WP:

open footer.php and comment lines 72-87 as Chris pointed out.
open single.php and replace lines 52-53 with this code:

you'll want to open up the footer.php and remove or comment out lines 72-87 (make a backup first)

then modify the links you'll want to edit all the templates you want to have a link to the attachment(single, page) or even the index/archive

Could you provide a file name I should start with for this modification? Is it all in single.php or should I also look somewhere else?

I would like to disable PrettyPhoto in general and link to the Media-Display-Page which opens when I view photos from the Media Library (links to ?attachment_id=xx with a page with comments for each image, title andf description). I tried to edit single.php lines 50/51 but didn't get far - is there an easy fix for this?
