Have you tried uninstalling the NexGen gallery, then re-installing it after activating the Politico theme? I was able to install NexGen and use it with no issues. All I did was following the NexGen instructions for adding a gallery to my posts and it showed up right away.

Please give that a shot and let me know if you're still having issues. You should be able to get it working though!

No, we are not trying to disable the slider. We are trying to disable the photo gallery function. The photo gallery function seems to be preventing any other photo gallery plugins such as NextGallery etc from functioning.
The post or page with the gallery works fine with a default theme - but when the Politico theme is activated, the gallery disappears.
