If you want to display the map, DO NOT select a static page for the home page in the reading settings. The overview map appears by default.

Hi Chris...as per my original question:
When I set a default picture in your theme (for pages without custom background), this picture is also used on the static home page instead of the overview map. Of course I want to keep using the overview map, but for other posts that don't have a custom background I want to use the default picture.

That is not an option as part of the settings in the WordPress dashboard. In addition to the default home page, WordPress only lets you select pages you create as the home page. It's possible there is a plugin out there that will let you select a category for the home page, but I haven't looked into this myself.

Yes, I understand that I can make it show my latest blog post, but what I was really asking is how I can make that non static page show an overview of all the blog posts. Is there any way in the theme to configure this?

My apologies if I have offended you by forgetting myself about the all-American holiday. Sometimes it just slips the European mind, especially when we live in Asia for a while. I hope I didn't disturb you too much.

It would be greatly helpful if you could help me understand how to make a non-static page showing what my home page shows now or how to make a custom page.

@ Oki calm down were on vacation for Holiday in the US

anyways youre using a static page for your homepage so the default image will replace it, if you want it display with a map then you need to not make it static or create a custom page template to do the modifications you want

Hi Chris,
To have a look at my page go to http://www.outdoorshanghai.com, log in as visitor, password: movnatshanghai.
Then click on "shanghai park map" at the top of the page.
My home page is a static page showing the map in the background. It seems that If I configure the "default image" it replaces the map on the home page as well.

also make sure you're not using a static page as your homepage it should be a map(unless its static)

in the admin Settings -> Reading

Ok...a more serious question this time:
I'm importing a calendar feed into my page. As it is imported there is no background picture set, so I configured a "default picture" in the theme settings. That works fine for the calendar events, BUT it also changes my homepage to that picture instead of the map.
I'd like to display my home page as a map, but still have a default picture that is used when no other pic is configured. I tried giving the home page coordinates, but that didn't work.
Is there a way in which I can exclude my home page from using the "default image"?
