I have the "random header" option selected in the theme options on the Customize page.

Hey Chris,

In your demo,the categories

http://themes.themolitor.com/contractor/category/3-residential/
and
http://themes.themolitor.com/contractor/category/1-commercial/

have different header pictures.

How did you achieve it?

Welcome to the forums! :-)

The header image that displays depends on the type of page you're currently viewing. For individual posts and pages, the header image can be controlled by assigning a featured image. Everything else uses the WordPress custom header feature on the Customize page.

Currently WordPress doesn't have an option to control the header/featured image for category, archive or search pages. I definitely agree that it would be nice if they implemented a core feature for those types of pages, but currently this type of functionality requires either custom development or a plugin (which may already exist).

Otherwise, I recommend searching the add new plugins page for a "custom header" plugin that adds this functionality.

Is it possible to specify what header image appears on a post? For example, we have posts for architectural projects, I don't want a random image shown but rather a large image specific to that project.
