I had this same problem. Make sure in your settings in the admin panel that wordpress is using the blog as the front page. That cleared this issue right up.

I can't seem to figure out where I've gone wrong, but I've got nothing showing up under the featured slider other than large black text that says 'Home' ...any ideas?
