I wanted to display a youtube video on the homepage

The way I went about it was to use the sidebar, define it in the stylesheet to be in the bottom right-hand corner of the page and a certain size, then only call the sidebar in index.php

Bit of a dodgy work around but it works :-)

I found that I can set WP to show a static page as the index, as opposed to the latest posts, but that means no map in the background.

is the content box supposed to appear on the homepage without any tweaking?

I created a child theme, and edited the index.php file to include a content box on the homepage. I added the content box content directly in the index.php. It works but I'm sure there's a cleaner way to do it? Ie. call an external file that contains the content box?

How have you guys set this up?
