With the way CSS works, the background image always displays over the background color. Use the first CSS I posted above to include the color/image preferences in your design.

Is there a way to have the book_bg.jpg image display *on top of* the background color? Then, I could customize the color of that jpg file to match the background color and upload it in cPanel, and make the pages of the book my own color.

Same styling, minus the image reference...

    background: #fff;
}

Just change the color hex value to your preferred color.

Hey, how about changing the color of the page (the white area where text is displayed) other than the book_bg.jpg that repeats down the middle.

Here is the styling to add the book image to the background...

#main {
    background: #fff url("images/book_bg.jpg") repeat-y scroll center 0;
}

You may need to adjust the image url if you place it in the Custom CSS box.

Hello, I would like to be able to set a different color for the reading area of the default template.

If I could set an image to propagate down the page like book_bg.jpg does on the Posts page, even better!
