I used to have the same issue and I think that I found the reason.
I actually build a vanilla install without any mods or addons, and I was able to recreate the problem.

I created a parent category "Events", Under this category I created child categories "Music" and "Movies". Then when I added new events, I only choose the category "Music" without choosing Events" (I check-boxed only Music). By doing this it seems that the order shown in my .../category/events page is from the date entered and not the date scheduled.

You need to have both the Events and music categories check-boxed on all events to have the proper order.

If that was occurring before making theme edits, it sounds like you didn't properly have a main event category assigned. Be sure that you have a main event (i.e. "Events") assigned on the Customize page. Then be sure each filter category has the main event category assigned as the parent.

Yeah it was happening way before, from the beginning actually. I altered the code as a last resort because I'm not the greatest coder by a long way.
I assumed it was due to the parent category as you stated above but after I altered that, hoping it would be sorted, unfortunately nothing.

I'm not sure what the issue is.
I'm willing to give you admin to have a look and make sure i'm not retarded and messed something up if you'd be willing.
As you can tell from the reference I posted fixing this would be awesome for the purpose. the site will have many many posts.

But, my category page is still backwards.

When I use that slider.php, it reverts back to being in reverse order showing the dates all the way in June first before the most up and coming ones. Using my slider.php works:

Wouldn't applying some form of that code I came up with in those particular php files probably fix it? Just, obviously stuff like sliderCat is not gonna work on a category page, I just wouldn't know the calendar page equivalent of it.

Maybe add some kind of order php in the page or calendar page.php?

I do that and then the slider on the front page goes back to showing expired events. Could you maybe look through some of the code?

Edits made to the theme might be the issue. Maybe try reverting to a default setup of the theme to see if that has any impact.

What do you mean 3rd page of the posts? I only see one huge list, which also includes expired events. Would the code I used to correct the expired events in the expired events thread be a threat to this page at all? Surely there's something we can do.

I'm really stumped at what the issue is. All the code is correct. You can also see that on the 3rd page of posts, the order displays as it should.

I haven't seen this occur before, so it must be something to do with your particular setup. I just cannot think of what would cause this to happen.

I just turned all of the plugins off and still the same result.

I see you have a lot of plugins installed. Try deactivating those to see if they are causing issues with post order (specifically the JetPack plugin).

The main page's calendar is set as Bears Den Pizza and so is the Slider. I just need this category page for live shows to be in the correct order.

It doesn't appear that you have "Bears Den Pizza" assigned as the main event category in the theme options on the Customize page.

Can you double-check/confirm you have that category selected?

All of my live shows are under "Live Shows" which is a child category of the main event parent category "Bears Den Pizza"

Hi there,

Be sure that any event-related category is assigned as a child category to your main event parent category. This will let the theme know that it needs to treat that category as an event category and display posts in the proper order. Otherwise, it will treat the category like a standard blog category where the most future post is displayed first.

Regarding cropping, that would require customization services as it isn't a quick edit that I can provide off the top of my head.

I made a Category (Live Music) as a separate page. Looks good...except that it lists the shows coming up soon last and the shows in the distant future first. Got it working right on my slider, but I can't get it going on my category page. What can I do? Also, I doubt it's possible, but any way I can not have my images get automatically cropped but scaled to the page instead?
