Thanks Christopher. I really appreciate all your help on this and I understand that you can't spend all your time on it either!

Perhaps there were some customizations made a while ago, and they did something weird at that point.

A dead link is probably a good workaround for the moment as all the info is there in the drop down.. but I'm not sure exactly where to include the # symbol? I'm not sure what you mean because 'TV' and 'FILM' are not currently menu items.

If I add a 'Custom Link' with # in the URL it just says 'pending' and is - obviously - not attributed to TV or FILM. How do I add a "custom link for TV and FILM" when I don't have a URL for TV or FILM (but if I did have a URL you're saying not to use it)? Sorry, I'm missing something obvious no doubt!! Thanks again.

This is so weird. Category pages are created automatically by WordPress, so this is not a theme-related issue that I can troubleshoot by looking at the theme code. In other words, adding categories to posts and displaying those posts in a WordPress-generated page is 100% a WordPress process.

I can't think of anything theme-related that would be causing this. I've never seen this issue before (in any of my themes), so I'm honestly at a loss for what could be causing this issue.

I'm totally on board for troubleshooting this with you (because I'm really curious about this), but please know that I may be limited in my ability to really solve this issue. It all just depends on what the F is going on.

Regarding the menu items, you COULD add a "custom link" menu item for "TV" and "FILM" where instead of entering an actual URL you just enter "#" to make it a dead link (forcing users to select a specific item in the drop down).

Me again! I'm wondering if there is a way to stop 'TV' and 'Film' being hyperlinks at all, and instead just allow the drop down menu to cater for this info (which is working fine)? It's a workaround but it would be ok. I am - otherwise - completely at a loss on how to fix this!!

I'm afraid that didn't change anything. I'm starting to think it must be something in a customization that was done previously. There's just no reason why the 'TV' category is behaving differently to the 'Film' category like this. Do you agree or have any other ideas? Otherwise I'll need to get someone who knows coding to have a look and see if it's something beyond what I can do.

And one more query while I'm here please - there is no Instagram button option in the Footer, can I add this somewhere do you know (next to our FB/TW/RSS buttons: deadpanpictures.ie)?... thanks again! Karla

Hi there,

That's odd...

Go to your WordPress backend, click Settings, click Permalinks. Make sure the category base is “category” and the tag base is “tag” (unless you have some VERY weird special settings) and simply press the “save changes” button. Even if nothing has changed, clicking the button will probably make your category page work again.

Let me know!

Best,

Christopher

Many published posts are categorised in both 'tv' and 'film', as I mentioned, but only 'TV' posts seems to be there when I click through, as per my previous email. I have tried to change the 'film' category so it has a parent ('credits') or move it up so it doesn't have a parent and still nothing appears in 'film'. There are 12 published posts categorised as 'film'. Do you see the issue I have? Would it help if you logged in? Thanks!

In that case I wonder why 'film' (here: http://deadpanpictures.ie/dpp/?cat=7) shows 'not found' (but the 'TV' drop down has content: http://deadpanpictures.ie/dpp/?cat=53... just to be clear - I don't mean the drop down pages when you hover, but when you CLICK through). How can I address the 'not found' issue, and/or change this content? There are lots of posts which have been categorised with 'film' so I'm wondering if you mean the drop downs when you hover (which are ok)? Thanks again!

Hi there,

Just to clarify, those are category pages that WordPress automatically generates for you. There is not a single "page" that you can view in the dashboard for those. They auto-populate based on the posts/videos you have assigned to those categories.

Does that answer your question?

Best,

Thanks for your reply Christopher.
Yes, 'credits' is there, it is a page. When I go into that 'credits' page from the dashboard, it brings me to the list of credits (the actual programmes like Can't Cope Won't Cope etc, listed). And on the site, when you hover over 'credits' the drop down menus 'TV' and 'Film' are there and you can go into the programme link from this drop down.. BUT I am looking for the pages when you hover over 'credits' then CLICK into 'TV' or 'Film'. So what I need to find are the individual 'film' and 'tv' pages. In the menu, the custom link for TV is http://deadpanpictures.ie/dpp/?cat=53 and the custom link for film is http://deadpanpictures.ie/dpp/?cat=7 I am looking for these pages but I can't see them as pages or posts.
In 'film' you will see it says 'not found' so I need to edit this page. I hope that explains things better? Many thanks again for your help! Karla

If not, please provide more details as I'm not seeing any issues on your site.

Hi there! Not sure you can help, but I can't find two drop down pages that are in my menu (The Producer theme: http://www.deadpanpictures.ie). I am looking for 'TV' and 'Film' under 'Credits', as the film one seems to be empty. They are not posts or pages so I'm not sure where else to look. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Karla (info@deadpanpictures.ie)
