*dude, please choose one place to post. It's getting a little obnoxious that your plastering both my forums and ThemeForest with this stuff*

(1) “This report was generated 04/30/2012 based on the last 15,000 page views to each website tracked by W3Counter. W3Counter’s sample currently includes 57,177 websites.”

(2) This is how the theme was built. Intentionally and with purpose.

I don’t appreciate people making claims that something is broken or that there are major issues when there are none, so yes, you can expect that I’ll defend my position and provide evidence to justify my decisions.

So far all I’ve seen from you to justify your claim(s) is a screenshot that clearly shows there isn’t enough physical space for the secondary sidebar.

Keeping in mind that the secondary sidebar is built, with purpose, for users with larger screens, I really don’t understand why you keep pushing this.

That sample is silly. W3 visitors are likely to be developers or at least power users who certainly, on average have larger displays. Thats like going to a Coke factory and determining that since no one is drinking pepsi there that, well, people just don't drink pepsi out in the "real world".

I can find quantitative data to support my claim, and will provide that. But this isn't about a stupid forum stat war.

My claim that the majority of internet users run a resolution that is less than what is required to make use of the secondary side bar is very true. You made a kick ass, tech savvy theme but, at this juncture in time, the media query constraints make it so mst wont be able to see the content.

Then again you have the conundrum of people using your theme, utilizing the SSB for content, then having that content be only being able to be viewed by every third viewer at best..its a real problem.

I have been looking at the code..i do not have your expertise by far, but is it really that difficult to change things to make more lower resolution friendly or the SSB? There's the print.css file, header.css, style.css and respond.min.js file that seem to be affected..and theres not a ton of code at all..you wrote it in a clean and elegant way so kudos to you...

What about the reverse approach..slightly making the main post div/wrap and the primary div/wrap slightly less wide? In conjunction with header modifications that seems like not a ton of work to do?

If there is a way for your buyers to make the change you could at least say that "these three filess need to be adjusted..play with lines 35, 50, 202 and 500 in the flowing files to adjust to your liking..not asking you to make a new theme. Just a direction that we can try with your input so we dont run in circles trying to find alternatives.

I know you know this is an issue on some level.you wouldnt be following up with another post out of the blue..you've been thinking about ti and trying to defend your great theme. This isnt about whos right or wrong, this is about providing options to the community on a significant compatibility and user readability issue.

As of January 2012, 85% of W3 schools traffic had a resolution higher than 1024x768. While this statistic doesn't represent the whole of the Internet, it definitely shows your "10% of the web" statistic is completely made up. Reference: http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_display.asp

Besides that, the theme page very clearly states that this theme adapts nicely for users with larger screens in order to display additional content (instead of having wasted opportunity to advertise, etc).

Understand your perspective Chris, however I still feel you are missing the point - what is the point of having content in a secondary sidebar when it will not even show up for most users?

Again most internet users have resolutions that will not enable the display of the secondary sidebar so essentially, a best practice for anyone using or developing is to turn off the secondary sidebar to make sure all content is viewed by all users.

Basically the only reason or application for the secondary sidebar would be for using it or an internal use, such as a presentation, where the user can control the screen size, and this is not what the theme is designed for.

This is going to continue to be an issue or you with more and more people like me raising this problem.

Ive been doing more and ore research and having media queries not work at 1024x768 is not considered good practice as it does not provide compatibility with the majority of web users.

You've created a theme that will only work consistently, with all features, with 10% of web users.

The media queries should be scaled back to work at lower resolutions, and no, this should not be a customization or a fee or service thing. It should be in your next theme update.

I've said my part. Copying this to the themeforest board as i feel its important for prospective buyers to be aware but i'll post on this no more.

Good day.

Hi there,

Couple things: The way the secondary sidebar works is (1) how this theme was built to work and (2) how this theme is advertised/marketed.

I’m very clear in my video and in the theme features that the sidebar will only display when there is enough room. From the item page...

"Adaptive layout – displays additional content on larger displays"

A “non media query/static version” isn’t going to change this. The simple fact is that the secondary sidebar requires space for it to display. If there isn’t enough space, then well, there isn’t enough space. You would experience a horizontal scroll bar due to overflowing content. This is generally considered bad practice and is not recommended for any user that has a advertising-dependent business to have their adds appear in a space not visible by the user unless they scroll horizontally on a non-horizontally scrolling site (i.e. this site is not intentionally setup for horizontal scrolling, so users are not guided to use the site in this way).

Long story short, there are no errors with this theme as it’s built as advertised. I’m sorry you promised your client something you can’t deliver, but to be honest, that isn’t my problem (sorry to be harsh in this regard). If you need it to function in any other way than what is advertised and very clearly listed in the theme features list, you’ll have to submit a customization request here: http://themolitor.com/custom

ok then, so the real issue is then, after insight from you and further testing from me is that resolution of 768 width and below, even on widescreen monitors will NOT show the secondary sidebar due to media query coding or restrictions.

Ok fine but, do you realize that most of the world still runs, even on widescreen monitors 1024x768? And most if the population out there, even if their screens support widths greater than 768 do not know how to change their resolutions...nor should they have to.

This limitation is unacceptable, at least in terms of not being up front about this. My site caters to older folks and god knows some of them probably even run 800x600. Purchasers of this theme should not have to know about inherint properties of media queries in order to assess if all functionality of your theme will indeed work/be available.

I have a client who insists that the seondary sidebar "just show up and work"..we have more content than can be jammed into the primary sidebar..so i'm screwed i guess?

I ask again, if all this is the case, is there a way to remove media queries / make the site fixed or not responsive so that the secondary sidebar shows up all the time?

At this point I don't care anymore how it looks on an Ipad. I need to close this project.

And the limitation or the fact of the secondary sidebar only working working with widths greater than 768 should be made visable on the product page to be fair and transparent to your customers and the community.

Thank you ..looking forward to your response.

Hi there,

I'm sorry you're getting the impression we don't care. We do. The trouble is trying to troubleshoot the issue you're having based on the information you're giving us.

Looking at your screenshot, there is no space for the secondary sidebar to appear. So in this case, it is a space issue relating to the browser size and/or the resolution settings (not dimensions of the monitor, but the resolution of the monitor).

If you could provide some additional screenshots of the secondary sidebar not appearing when there is visible evidence that there is enough space, I will be happy to look into this further for you.

Keep in mind, when the secondary sidebar is turned on in the settings, there is only 1 thing that determines if it is visible or not and that 1 (read ONE) thing is media queries. Media queries are supported in all major browsers except for IE8 and below.

Hope that helps. Again, I'm here to help, so if you can provide evidence of the secondary sidebar not working when there is ample space for it, I will definitely check it out. Being as it is, I have zero evidence for the secondary sidebar not working when it should be.

Thanks!

Chris

link below is a screenshot from a computer running xp and with a very recent version of firefox.

heres a link

http://www.noochibeads.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/34243-1.jpg

this is how its suppossed to look

http://www.medicalfrontpage.com

you can see secondary sidebar is not rendering per the first link.

this is not

a IE8 only issue
an issue relating to widescreens vs CRT of traditional lat panels
screen resolution, regardless off monitor type doesnt matter
xp / vista / win7 doesn't matter

the issue, seemingly without any logic, works on some computers and not others.

Can we PLEASE get an official response on this? It seems like nobody cares and this is a critical failure of the theme. i purchased this because of the layout and look available, and turning off the sidebar and going to just one is not an option.

Thank you
