Hi there,

If you're dealing with a lot of posts, I do recommend periodically deleting older files (or moving them to an "archive" category,etc.). Maybe there's a plugin out there that can do this for you?

Best,

Thanks for your response!

Is there a way to solve this in a more long-term way? As you said, my client is using the calendar pretty heavily, so I would probably have to keep changing the query to pull more and more posts. All I can think of is periodically doing a bulk un-publish of many older/expired posts so they aren't pulled by the query. Any other solutions would be welcome, though!

Hi there,

Thanks for the insight and examples to help explain your findings!

I arbitrarily set the max to 200 thinking most users wouldn't exceed that number. Since you seem to be blowing through that number, it's more than fine to increase 200 to any number you need to display your posts.

Best,

I am having this same issue and I think I might have figured out what's going on, though I don't yet know how to solve it.

What I think is happening is that the query pulls the first 200 published posts it finds, starting with the oldest. Then it eliminates any expired posts and shows the rest.

So say we pull 200 posts, and 150 of them are expired. The calendar only displays 50 events. Since we pulled from the oldest first, many of the posts will be expired.

When you change the number to 500, it just pulls more posts to begin with, so 500 - 150 expired posts = 350 posts displayed.

If I change the query to have order=DESC instead, I get many more posts since we are going from newest first. However, then the calendar itself displays in descending order, which is not ideal.

This is just a guess on my part about what's going on, but it seems to make sense with how things look on my site.

Hi there,

Thanks for clarifying. I'm not sure why changing the number would make any difference. At least not when you're dealing with less than 200 posts.

For now, is the issue resolved for you?

Let me know.

Hi Chris. No no, I didn't explain myself well.

I tried that second suggestion about removing the expiration check (including that final bracket) and then the calendar showed all the events ever published including expired ones. So that was not the point, and I undid that change and included the expiration check again.

After that, and just to try, I changed the 200 limit and the calendar now is working well.
That's why I think issue is somehow related with that limit, which maybe is affecting the whole number of posts ever published (and not only the pending ones).

Hope is more clear now, sorry about my english :)

Best regards
Natalia

Hi, yes, I had forgotten the closing bracket... tried again with that bracket out and then the calendar shows all the events ever published :O

Then just to try I changed the 200 limit here: "$wp_query->query('order=ASC&cat='.$eventCat.'&showposts=200'.'&paged='.$paged);" to 500 and is working!!

Why? Maybe there is a little bug and the 200 hundred limit affects to the whole number of events ever published?? (there are 242 ones) What do you think about Chris? I would like to know the reason behind the issue though is working now :)

Best

Hi Chris.
- if I remove "&cat='.$eventCat.'" I see fewer events (four less). All of them belong to the main events category and to a child one.
- maybe I didn't understand you well, but if I remove "if(strtotime(get_the_time('Y-m-d')) >= strtotime(date('Y-m-d'))){" I get this "Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '}' in C:\xampp\htdocs\afandeplan\wp-content\themes\eventure\calendar.php on line 59"

Hi there,

There are only two sections of the calendar.php template file code that filter out posts. One is the main loop...

$wp_query->query('order=ASC&cat='.$eventCat.'&showposts=200'.'&paged='.$paged);

The other is the expiration check...

//CHECK IF EVENT HAS EXPIRED
if(strtotime(get_the_time('Y-m-d')) >= strtotime(date('Y-m-d'))){

With the loop, it's only loading posts that are in the main event category you select in the theme options. For the expiration check, it's only loading posts that haven't expired (i.e. the date is in the future).

To troubleshoot this, try removing
&cat='.$eventCat.'
from the loop code in calendar.php. If that works, it means the posts you're trying to load aren't in the main event category.

If that doesn't help, try removing the expiration check above (as well as the closing
}//END EXPIRATION CHECK
portion at the bottom of the file. If that works, it means the posts you're trying to load are expired.

Let me know if that helps.

Best,

Chris

Hi again Chris. I've tried that and conflict is still there. See the print screen: https://www.dropbox.com/s/9ot1tepr6mxynls/localtest.JPG

It should show 62 events and it is only showing 28. Just like in the live web: http://afandeplan.com/ I've got my customer complaining about this :(

Hi there,

I don't see anything in the default code of the theme that would prevent posts from showing in the calendar as long as they aren't expired and are assigned to the event category you specify.

Just to rule out any customizations as a possible cause, please try using a default setup of the theme to see if the conflict still occurs.

Let me know. We can continue to troubleshoot this if the issue persists.

Hi Chris and everybody around the forum. I've got an X-file with the calendar on my web. Calendar is not showing the 200 events it is supposed to show. I've read on other posts that's controlled in calendar.php (which I didn't edit at all) and looking for the code it is still there [$wp_query->query('order=ASC&cat='.$eventCat.'&showposts=200'.'&paged='.$paged);]

Can you please help me with this? I can't find what's going wrong :(
