No need to answer this post. I answered my own question. I didn't realize there was more than one instance of the calendarpost div in the index.php file.

I have read this instruction for removing the calendar date on the posts, RE: On the "index.php", "archive.php", and "single.php" pages there is a "calendarPost" div. Just delete that.
I have removed the calendarpost div from all three files.
When I do a new post to the news category slug for the left side of the home page it still puts the calendar date in.
Please advise.
