I am seeing this issue on my live server (Webfaction) running Wordpress 3.5.1., but I don't get the error on my local MAMP installation running 3.5.1. My server instance is natively running php 5.4.8, while the local install is running php 5.3.6. Adding a directive to the server installation's .htaccess file to use php 5.3 fixed the issue for me.

Long story short; if you're getting the error on index.php line 22, try forcing your server to use php 5.3 instead of 5.4.

I understand your frustrations.

The main reason we don't provide support for local installations is simply because we can't effectively troubleshoot all the possible causes for the error your receiving.

This particular error only seems to appear on local testing environments, which means it has something to do with the particular setup users have on their machine. If this error were showing on live site installations (none reported so far in 2 years), then I would be more than willing to investigate the issue (mainly because I would have the ability to look at the error or recreate it for troubleshooting).

@dreamleech2: Did you sort this out because I'm getting the same blasted error.

@ckelley - it's all very well that you don't support your theme on a local server, but I've just paid $45 for this theme and it doesn't work.
I install all my themes locally while I develop the sites, and I think your excuse is poor.
If this error happens more than once, it's quite possibly more a theme problem than an environment problem.

we do not support themes on local servers as there are many things that can go wrong and we cannot check, you need to get it on a live servers and see if the problem persists

I am running xamp with PHP 5.4.4 and just activated the Brick + Mason theme. The back end continues to work fine, but the front end ONLY shows:

Warning: Illegal string offset 'video' in C:\xampp\htdocs\wp-content\themes\wpbm\index.php on line 22

What gives? All other themes work no problem...
