I'd look up a bit of info on "pages" vs. "posts".
http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/

By default, your Wordpress account will display your blog posts on the front page. When you're logged into wp-admin, find "Reading" under the "Settings" tab. The first question is "Front Page Displays" and it should say "Your latest posts." Create a post and publish it and it should be on the front page. If it doesn't show up, clear your browser's cache (you can Google that) and close and re-open your browser.

If you want to create a menu link that will show a particular category, add the post to that category and then go to the "Appearance" tab and "Menus". You can create your top menu here, which can either link to a page you've created or a page containing posts in that category.

You don't need to create a page for the blog. Just add the category link to the menu.
