I'm not familiar with the plugin code that is adding that extra markup, so unfortunately I don't have any suggestions beyond disabling the plugin that is adding it.

Removing Jetpack means removing so many features of the site, I will probably need to get a designer in to sort this out?

Looking at your markup, I'm seeing the following attached to your images...

?resize=700%2C450&ssl=1

That is not something the theme is doing, so my guess is that you have a plugin installed that is adjusting the size of your images.

I took a quick look at your source code and see you're using the JetPack plugin. I'm not sure if that's the cause of this particular issue, but I am seeing this plugin causing other errors. My recommendation is to disable this plugin as it is notorious for causing more harm than good IMO.

These are looking low resoultion, but the images they are using (the featured images) are high res. What's happening?
