@ ferguskelly no worries, it be a plugin conflict with another plugins, easiest way to find the culprit is do activate them 1 by 1 until it breaks

My apologies. Turned all plugins off and on (for the second time) and the issue seems to be resolved for one of the affected categories (Film) but not the other (Theatre). Bizarre. Does appear to be a plugin issue. I'll keep trying.

youll need to disable all plugins to see if that fixes the issue, youd be surprised what some conflicts can cause

do you have any plugins installed?

as categories shouldn't be displaying different(they use the exact same code to render the pages)

I've noticed some inconsistencies with category and tag archive pages on my site.

Some are displaying soonest first http://westportartsfestival.com/events/genre/events/music/
Others are display soonest last http://westportartsfestival.com/events/genre/events/film/
Both are subcategories of the Events category

Is this a known issue? I've checked the code which appears fine and deleted the offending category and re-instated a new one but it didn't work. I've made some additional page templates to allow me to display multiple calendars and sliders of different categories.

Any help would be appreciated
