I'm not sure what was wrong, I replaced index.php with a fresh copy and all is well (although I don't remember editing index.php) - Thanks for your help.

Just a hunch... try adding an upper case "F" to all instances of "featured"

Make sure you configured your settings properly in the theme settings page and assign posts to the appropriate category.

Also, it's featuring posts with no pictures attached at all.

I updated to permalinks (now at kentpresbyterian.org) and the featured pictures are still from every category.

You need to change your permalink structure in WordPress so that your URLs show the name of the category and not the id of the category.

Despite creating a category called "Featured" and specifying it in the Theme Settings, posts from all categories show in my feature slider.
