Hi there,

The plugin I suggested (WP Database Reset) should have only been used to clean up the database (specifically I mentioned the wp-options table). Doing that should not have resulted in any loss of content.

That said, any time you are doing anything to your site files/databases, you should ALWAYS make a backup or make sure you have backup services provided by your hosting provider. Loss of content is something everyone accidentally experiences when they are making changes, so it's important you back everything up.

Thanks!

Chris

This was the last straw to be honest - I've just gone ahead and bought a new theme.

Once my database went down and I took the whole day to come back, it looked as if all my search results raking etc. had gone.

Hi there,

I'm sorry you're having trouble updating. Unfortunately updating is a headache because of significant changes made to the OptionTree plugin. The developer of the plugin dramatically changed everything in version 2.0, making all themes break when users updated the plugin. Additionally, he completely changed the way the plugin interacts with the database, so going from version 1.x to 2.x of the plugin causes issues (hence the need for the "WP Database Reset" plugin).

I was forced to release a new version of all my themes with the plugin built into the theme structure in order to avoid this happening again. Sadly the database issue with the different version of the plugin still exists.

Again, I sympathize with you on the problem with updating. That isn't how I wish it would be. The truth is I'm a front-end developer, not a back-end developer, so issues/conflicts with datatbases, etc. go beyond my knowledge (hence the lack of a solid step-by-step process for addressing any issues that come up when updating).

I posted this FAQ to help users who are updating their theme to provide as much detail as possible: http://www.themolitor.com/forums/topic/faq-how-do-i-update-my-theme

Hope that explains things. Sorry again for the trouble.

Best,

Chris

Nice one. I used another 'wordpress databse reset' and just lost everything.

Dunno if that's the one you wanted to use or not, as you didn't provide a link, you just provided a search term.

You can imagine that at this point I am livid.

No offence mate, but if that was likely to be necessary, why have I not seen it in any of the instructions?

Incidentally, it hasn't worked as far as I can tell.

I have installed the program and activated it, and nothing happens.

The plugin says it will go to the plugin page when activated, but it does nothing.

I don't know if I just have to activate it ad leave it or activate it and then do something - their instructions are piss poor.

I'm getting to the end of my tether with this - information seems to be spread all over the place, I feel like you are drip feeding information.

There's an update... how do I get it working.. install a plugin.... how does that work.... i doesn't work.... why now.... wait another day.....

I imagine you spend a hell of a lot of time answering questions - I don't know why you don't take a bit more time to to just do step by step bullet proof instructions including all the data and link necessary.

Hi there,

If you're updating from a version that required the OptionTree plugin, you'll need to deactivate/delete the plugin and use the "WP Database Reset" plugin to clean up the wp-options table.

Let me know if that helps at all.

Thanks!

Chris

So after the update I've deactivated option tree because it's built into the new update apparently (I installed by just copying the new wpbm folder over the old one.

I am having problem with posts loading on the page - after looking around I see it's because of the 'reading' setting in wordpress not matching the theme options settings.

So now, I can't set the theme options posts setting, because I can't select any other theme option apart from the one at the top.

The url updates

http://www.jd3d.co.uk/wp-admin/themes.php?page=ot-theme-options#section_home_page

but the page does not load.

the basic website url is

http://www.jd3d.co.uk

Do I actually need to deactive option tree (the post loading didn't work when it was activated)?

Do I need the latest version of WordPress? I didn't update because I'm not sure if my hosting company supports it, and you made no mention of it.
