Hi its best to use a plugin like http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-seo/ or All and 1 SEO then it all can be edited customary via the WordPress admin panel

I was was able to add a meta description tag to the header.php, but when I try to grab the_excerpt(), I get tags from "share this." Any ideas on what else to call or how to parse out everything and just get a specified number of characters of actual blog text?
