I’ve never read any of Shakespeare’s works. Partly because it’s difficult to read and that it was intended to be experience in a theatrical setting. Well, I’ve found the cure for the weary reader. This new “No Fear Shakespeare” graphic novel series is amazing. I now understand why some get upset when people call graphic novels “comic books.” They truly are novels in the sense that they are very story/character driven.

The art, which is awesome, reminds me of Frank Miller’s style. So far only Macbeth, Hamlet, and Romeo & Juliet (of course) are available. If you haven’t read any of these stories (especially Macbeth), do yourself a favor and check it out! I sat down and literally couldn’t stop reading (I finished the book in less than 3 hours). I’m on my way now to pick up Hamlet.

Me neither…..until had to read them for school. I’ve got these:- http://www.classicalcomics.com. I use them in class too. Even got boys reading Macbeth for fun!! Graphic Shakespeare do a version, so do Wiley. depends if you want b&w or colour, abrdiged or full text, manga or classic. I’ve got original text and the plain English versions, full colour, unabridged.

That’s pretty cool. I didn’t realize there were so many options. I personally struggle with the old English. No Fear have done a pretty good job of keeping the style of the language, but making it easier to read. One of the examples they give is “To be, or not to be? That is the question” vs “The question is: is it better to be alive or dead?”
